The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced the completion of the qualification stage in Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing process, paving the way for three telecommunications companies to advance to the next round.
According to the Authority, four applications were received by the August 27 deadline, but only three met the eligibility and technical requirements under the first stage of assessment.
Qualified applicants include Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana), and Gool Telecommunications Ltd. Infrafrav Ltd was declared non‑qualified, with the NCA noting that reasons for disqualification had been communicated to the company.
The qualified firms will now proceed to Stage 3 of the licensing process, where their Best Price Offers will be opened and ranked. The NCA said applicants will be notified separately of the date, time, and venue for this exercise.
The licensing process covers spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3.6 GHz bands, which are critical for the rollout of next‑generation mobile services. The announcement marks a significant step toward Ghana’s adoption of 5G technology, expected to enhance connectivity, support innovation, and drive economic growth.
