The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have assured the travelling public that existing transport fares remain unchanged, despite ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Transport over a possible review.
The unions disclosed that a meeting was held with the Minister for Transport and his technical team on Tuesday, September 8, to discuss proposals for fare adjustments under the 2026 fare window. At the meeting, government highlighted prevailing macroeconomic conditions and ongoing measures to stabilize the cedi, including a GHS 2.00 per litre intervention on diesel prices aimed at cushioning operators and passengers.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of the fuel intervention and agreed that its full impact on operating costs must be assessed before any decision is taken. A joint team comprising representatives of the Ministry, GPRTU, and GRTCC has been formed to review all cost inputs. The outcome of this exercise will be communicated to the public in due course.
In the meantime, the unions have urged drivers, station masters, and transport owners to maintain current approved fares across the country. They also appealed to passengers and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative as the process continues.
