The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has begun a monitoring tour of the Upper East Region to assess the rollout of Ghana’s Free Primary Healthcare programme.
The visit is aimed at evaluating progress on the ground, engaging frontline health workers and community stakeholders, and identifying challenges requiring immediate attention to ensure effective delivery of quality, accessible primary healthcare services.
Hon. Akandoh is expected to visit selected health facilities and communities to observe implementation firsthand and interact with stakeholders on the successes and gaps of the programme.
The Free Primary Healthcare initiative, launched earlier this year, is a key government priority designed to bring essential services closer to the people, particularly at the community and primary healthcare levels. It complements the National Health Insurance Scheme by reducing the burden of preventable and treatable conditions.
The Upper East monitoring tour forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to strengthen oversight, ensure accountability, and guarantee that the programme delivers on its promise of universal access to primary healthcare.
