Ghana’s Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku‑Agyemang, joined African leaders and distinguished guests at the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum, organised by the African School of Governance. The forum provided a platform for candid discussions on Africa’s history, development trajectory, and future aspirations.
Vice President Opoku‑Agyemang participated in a high‑level panel alongside President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn Boshe, and former South African President Thabo Mbeki.
In her remarks, she underscored the importance of Africans taking greater ownership of their development and narratives, stressing that “Pan‑Africanism was founded on the conviction that Africans could work together to determine their own future. That conviction must remain at the heart of our development today.”
She urged the African School of Governance to invest in research grounded in Africa’s realities and to produce solutions relevant to the continent’s needs. Education, she emphasized, must prepare young people not only to participate in the future but to shape it with confidence, knowledge, and skills.
Discussions also highlighted the need to confront bottlenecks and bureaucracy that slow progress, ensuring that policies and institutions deliver tangible improvements in the lives of citizens, particularly those with fewer opportunities.
The Vice President concluded by calling for a collective re‑examination of Africa’s place in the world: “We must increasingly ask where Africa ought to be, what it will take to get there, and what each of us is prepared to do to make that future possible.”
