The Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss areas of collaboration, particularly in strengthening security on the university campus through technology.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, including the use of technology to enhance security, improve information sharing and address emerging security challenges within the university environment.
The Vice Chancellor expressed the University’s interest in working closely with the Ministry and its security agencies to develop innovative approaches to campus security and explore technology-driven solutions that could improve the safety of students, staff and visitors.
In his remarks, Hon. Muntaka congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his appointment and commended KNUST for its contribution to education, research and national development.
He welcomed the proposal for greater collaboration between the Ministry and KNUST, particularly the use of technology to bridge security gaps, describing it as an area in which the Ministry was already pursuing several initiatives.
Hon. Muntaka noted that the Ministry was working to expand the use of technology across its agencies and services, including efforts to facilitate online background checks nationwide to make the process more efficient and accessible.
The Minister assured the KNUST delegation of his unwavering support for the University’s security initiatives and welcomed collaboration on technology, research and innovation in the security sector, while assuring the University of increased police visibility on campus, including regular police patrols, to enhance security and provide a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
