The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of applications for the promotion of teaching staff to senior ranks within the service. The exercise, which begins on Tuesday, August 19, 2026, and closes on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, will consider qualified officers for elevation to the ranks of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.
In a circular signed by the Director‑General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Service outlined the eligibility criteria for each rank. Applicants must have served continuously at post since their last promotion, except for approved leave periods. For instance, candidates for Deputy Director must have attained the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2022, while those seeking promotion to Assistant Director I must have held the Assistant Director II rank within the same timeframe. Similar timelines apply to promotions for Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent.
The GES further clarified the role of academic qualifications in the process. Officers holding Master’s or PhD degrees may apply out of turn, provided their certificates were obtained in or before 2023 and are on the approved GES course of study. Importantly, such certificates must not have been acquired prior to the applicant’s last promotion.
Applicants are required to complete the process online via the official GES promotions portal and upload supporting documents, including a passport‑sized photograph, their last promotion or appointment letter, and the highest academic certificate relevant to the application. All documents, except the photograph, must be submitted in PDF format.
The Service emphasized that only clear and legible submissions will be considered, urging teachers to adhere strictly to the guidelines to ensure smooth processing.
