Acting Defence Minister Hands Over to New Minister

The Acting Minister for Defence, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to the newly appointed substantive Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, marking the end of his tenure as caretaker of the Ministry.

Dr. Forson was tasked by President John Dramani Mahama to oversee the Ministry following the tragic death of the substantive Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash. Over the past year, he provided leadership and ensured continuity in the administration and retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces.

At a formal handing‑over ceremony, the two ministers signed the relevant documents to confirm the transfer of responsibility. In his remarks, Dr. Forson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as caretaker and sustain the operations of the Ministry and the Armed Forces. He welcomed Hon. Adjei back to the Ministry, describing it as a family, and pledged his continued goodwill and cooperation towards advancing its mandate.

Dr. Forson further acknowledged the support of the Deputy Minister, Chief Director, staff of the Ministry, and the Military High Command throughout his tenure.

The incoming Minister, Hon. Adjei, stated his determination to give off his best, emphasizing his commitment to strengthening the defence sector, safeguarding national stability, and serving the Republic of Ghana with dedication.

In recognition of Dr. Forson’s dedicated service, the Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces presented him with citations and gifts, underscoring his hard work and contribution to sustaining the Ministry during a critical period.
