The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has underscored the indispensable role of resilient pension systems in promoting financial stability and sustainable economic development across Africa.
Addressing the Africa Pension Supervisors Association (APSA) Annual Conference in Accra, Dr. Asiama emphasized that stronger collaboration among regulators, enhanced supervisory frameworks, technological resilience, and timely data sharing are essential to safeguarding long‑term savings and strengthening Africa’s financial ecosystem.
“Financial stability ultimately depends on confidence in the governance of institutions, the integrity of markets, the security of financial infrastructure, and the capacity of authorities to respond when risks emerge,” he stated.
The Governor’s remarks highlighted the critical link between pension systems and broader financial resilience, noting that effective supervision and innovation are central to protecting the welfare of citizens and ensuring sustainable growth.
His call reflects a growing consensus among African regulators that pensions must be positioned not only as retirement safeguards but also as anchors of economic stability in an increasingly interconnected financial landscape.
