The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
According to WAEC, results have been dispatched to schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education, while candidates may also access them online via the Council’s official website.
Candidate Statistics
A total of 620,243 candidates — 304,415 males and 315,828 females — from 20,789 schools participated in the examination, which was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide. The figure includes 136 visually impaired candidates, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 with other test accommodation requirements. WAEC reported that 3,601 candidates were absent.
Malpractice Findings
Following investigations into irregularities, WAEC’s Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the following sanctions:
- Cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates.
- Cancellation of entire results for 105 candidates.
- Withholding of subject results for 119 candidates.
- Withholding of entire results for 48 candidates.
Additionally, subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further scrutiny. WAEC indicated that these results may be cancelled or released depending on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026.
Advisory to Candidates
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld are advised to visit WAEC’s irregularity portal for details and guidance on next steps. The Council also cautioned stakeholders against fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee, stressing that WAEC results are secure and can be authenticated.
The Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and all partners for their support in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
