The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has condemned the reported assault of students of Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College by police officers during a peaceful demonstration, calling for an immediate and independent investigation.
According to NUGS, the incident occurred on Monday, July 27, when students staged a protest over poor feeding, unsanitary conditions, and inadequate communication between college management and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC). The Union noted that grievances had been raised earlier but were left unresolved, prompting the demonstration.
In a statement signed by President Rashid Ibrahim Esq., NUGS described the use of force against unarmed students as unacceptable, stressing that the 1992 Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration.
Call to Authorities
The Union has urged the Inspector-General of Police to order a thorough investigation and ensure accountability for any unlawful actions. It also called on the Ministry of Health and college management to provide immediate medical care to students who sustained injuries and to address welfare concerns without delay.

“NUGS stands firmly with the students of Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College and remains committed to defending the rights, welfare, and dignity of every Ghanaian student,” the statement read. The Union pledged to monitor developments and engage relevant authorities until justice is served and lasting solutions are achieved.
The Union reaffirmed its motto, “Education, A Right Not a Privilege,” and stressed that students deserve a safe learning environment and responsive management.
