The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that the August edition of the National Sanitation Day clean‑up exercise will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with strict enforcement measures to ensure compliance.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, the Assembly directed all stakeholders, including traders, shop owners, transport operators, market leaders, corporate institutions, organizations, and residents, to fully participate in the exercise scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The AMA emphasized that all shops, stalls, tabletop businesses, hawking, and trading activities are expected to remain closed during the period. The clean‑up will focus on desilting drains, clearing choked gutters and waterways, sweeping public spaces, and evacuating refuse.
The Assembly warned that individuals or groups who fail to participate or obstruct the exercise will face arrest, fines, or prosecution. “This is a collective responsibility. We urge all residents and businesses to cooperate in promoting a cleaner, healthier, and safer Accra,” the release stated.
