Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited has presented a cheque for GH¢6.864 million to the Ayanfuri community in fulfilment of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the people, reinforcing its commitment to community development.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, by Prof. J. S. Y. Kuma, Technical Advisor to the Minister, Perseus Mining was commended for honouring its obligations. The Minister described the donation as a demonstration that corporate social investment is a genuine commitment to improving lives and not merely a slogan.
“This donation is not a mere financial contribution but a reaffirmation of trust, partnership and shared responsibility for sustainable development,” the Minister stated.
Presenting the cheque, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Paramount Chief of Assin Owurenkyi Traditional Area and Board Chairman of Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited, noted that the donation fulfilled the company’s obligations under the MoU. He expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation, which enabled mining operations to resume at the Fetish and Esuojah North pits three months ago.
The Board Chair further disclosed that Perseus Mining had paid US$1.4 million to the Government of Ghana for the reclamation of about 70 hectares of its concession ceded to the state. He assured the Chiefs and people of Ayanfuri that the company remains committed to supporting the community’s development.
Receiving the cheque, Nana Kwadwo Appiah III, Chief of Ayanfuri, expressed appreciation for the continued support and pledged the community’s commitment to maintaining cordial relations with the company.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ghana Chamber of Mines, and officials of Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited.
