The Government of Ghana has announced the resumption of evacuations of its nationals from South Africa beginning Sunday, July 26, 2026, following renewed xenophobic attacks against migrants.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exercise is expected to cover about 1,000 Ghanaians, with the first flights scheduled to arrive in Accra on July 26 and 27. The evacuation will prioritize women, children, the elderly, persons with medical conditions, and students.
Ghanaians in distress have been urged to contact the High Commission in Pretoria via telephone number 0723681010 for assistance with travel arrangements.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Church of Pentecost in Pretoria and Johannesburg, as well as Global Kingdom Investment Pty. Ltd., for providing shelter free of charge to displaced Ghanaians awaiting processing.
Officials emphasized that the Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens abroad. The High Commission in Pretoria has reactivated its emergency consular response and is coordinating closely with affected communities.
The Ministry urged Ghanaians in South Africa to remain calm, avoid areas of unrest, and cooperate fully with consular officials to ensure a smooth humanitarian evacuation.
“Government assures that we shall leave no Ghanaian behind in harm’s way,” the statement concluded.
