Parliament Launches Youth-Focused Civic Education Series

Parliament has unveiled a new educational initiative dubbed “Parliament and You” under the theme “Promoting Parliamentary Education Among the Young.” The programme, launched in partnership with Graphic Communications Group Limited, seeks to deepen young people’s understanding of parliamentary democracy, governance, and civic responsibility.

Speaking on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, underscored the importance of inclusive civic education. He stressed that investing in the education of young people and involving them in decision-making processes is the surest way to prepare them for future leadership roles. “Empowering the youth today will enable them to confidently take centre stage tomorrow,” he remarked.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and the Minority Leader, Hon. Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, both described the initiative as timely and commendable. They urged Graphic Communications Group Limited to ensure that parliamentary information is presented accurately and in a child-friendly manner to help children better appreciate parliamentary proceedings.

The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, and the Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr. Ato Afful, emphasized the need to recognize children not only as future leaders but also as voices deserving consideration today. They encouraged young participants to remain curious and committed to learning.

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, also threw his support behind the programme, urging children to embrace it as a valuable learning opportunity. He donated 25 laptops to aid the educational initiative.

The launch marks a significant step in Parliament’s efforts to foster civic awareness and nurture the next generation of leaders through education and engagement.
