Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was graciously hosted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
Our discussions were fruitful, focusing on Ghana’s humanitarian appeal for the release of two of our citizens currently held as prisoners of war in Ukraine. Minister Ablakwa expressed optimism that negotiations will be successful.
We also explored how Ghana and Ukraine can work together to combat trafficking networks that lure vulnerable African youth into the ongoing conflict.
On behalf of President John Mahama and the Government of Ghana, Minister Ablakwa conveyed deep gratitude to President Zelenskyy for ensuring that the rights of our citizens are protected under international law.
Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral relations with strategic interventions in agriculture, defence, education, and trade. In a significant diplomatic gesture, President Zelenskyy extended a formal invitation to President Mahama, as Kyiv seeks to elevate its ties with Accra.
