The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three men for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District.
The accused – Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan – were prosecuted after being found in possession of weapons without lawful authority. Presiding Judge, His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, accepted their guilty pleas and sentenced each to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵2,400.00. In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.
The three had earlier been remanded in custody before reappearing in court on Wednesday, February 18, where judgment was delivered.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service urged the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime in the Upper West Region.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, emphasized that community cooperation remains vital in ensuring safety and security across the region.
