People who died in the Appiatse explosion in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region will be buried in mass today, 11 March 2022.
The explosion, which occurred near Bogoso on 20 January 2022, killed 13 people and injured 59 others, including a 15-month-old baby.
Some of the victims have already been buried, with the rest set to be interred today.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Isaac Dasmani previously told the media that families who wanted their deceased to be buried privately would be able to do so.
“We met the bereaved families and had a discussion where the decision to have a mass burial for the deceased was taken. We set March 11, 2022, for the burial. However, some families begged to bury their dead privately, which we agreed to,” he stated.
According to the police, the explosion occurred as a consequence of a collision involving a truck carrying mining explosives, a motorcycle, and another vehicle.
Many people were relocated as a result of the accident, as their homes were destroyed to the ground by the bomb. In fact, a whole community was obliterated.
