Two Arrested in Oti Region for Possession of Firearm and Ammunition

The Oti Regional Police Command has arrested two men for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Police reports indicate that officers intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS-4677-17, which was transporting building materials from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region. A search of the vehicle uncovered a locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition concealed among the cargo.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, 19-year-old Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, claimed ownership of the exhibits and were immediately taken into custody.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects are assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.

In a statement, Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, assured the public that the Command remains committed to ongoing operations aimed at removing illegal weapons from communities to enhance public safety.
