Tema Police Intercept Over 1,600 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics

The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a major intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.

The operation, which took place at Agomeda Junction around 12:45 a.m. on 11th January 2026, followed actionable intelligence received a day earlier indicating that narcotics were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.

Two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22)—were intercepted during the operation. The drivers, identified as Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39, were arrested on the spot. A search of the vehicles uncovered 872 parcels in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels in the Toyota Highlander, all wrapped in compressed yellow packaging.

The suspects and exhibits were handed over to the Regional CID in Tema on 12th January for further investigation. Samples of the substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while police continue to search the suspects’ residences and prepare to process them for court.

The Tema Regional Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities. The public is encouraged to share credible information to support law enforcement efforts and help keep communities safe.
