The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup at a special ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The event, scheduled for 11:00 GMT at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House, is expected to mark another milestone in one of Ghana’s most symbolic sporting initiatives.
Designed to strengthen democratic values through sport, the Democracy Cup has evolved into a unique platform blending football, governance, and national identity. Organizers say the initiative harnesses the unifying power of the game to promote civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and national cohesion.
This year’s launch is anticipated to draw government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting fraternity, corporate partners, sponsors, and members of the diplomatic corps. Beyond Ghana’s borders, the Democracy Cup continues to expand its international footprint, supported by partnerships aimed at elevating the country’s global sporting profile.
