SONA 2025: Mahama Unveils Plans to Empower Zongo and Muslim Communities

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Muslim communities and Zongo areas in Ghana.

In his 2025 State of the Nation Address, he outlined several initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Muslims and Zongo residents.

Enhancing Islamic Education

Mahama announced plans to resource the Islamic Education Unit, recruit more Islamic and Arabic tutors for English-Arabic schools, and support Islamic colleges of education with infrastructure and logistics.

 

Promoting Inclusive Development

The president also pledged to enroll youth in Zongo and deprived urban communities in the National Apprentice Program, offering them free technical and vocational training.

Improving Healthcare

Mahama has previously emphasized the need for culturally sensitive healthcare services in Zongo communities. He proposed improving healthcare facilities and services in these areas, addressing the unique needs of Muslim-dominated communities ².

Empowering Muslim Communities

The president has also assured the Muslim community of his plan to establish a National Pilgrimage Authority, overseeing all pilgrim activities in Ghana.

Mahama’s address demonstrates his administration’s commitment to promoting inclusive growth and addressing the unique needs of Muslim and Zongo communities in Ghana.
