An alleged dynamite explosion at Santa Maria in Accra has left two individuals injured.
The cause of the incident is yet unknown,as residents in the neighborhood claim to be living in fear.
The explosion was reported to have occurred on Tuesday afternoon June 7th , 2022.
Gladys Fiavi, a resident of the Santa Maria is said to have been caught in the blast, which resulted in the loss of her toe nails.
A pregnant woman who came to the scene passed out while trying to rescue Gladys and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Talking to JoyNews, the assemblyman of the area revealed that he received a called from a resident of the affected area and ” had to rush to the scene”.
“The issue happened at a suburb of Santa Maria; it’s a polling station used for voting. Around 3 o’clock [in the afternoon], yesterday, I had a call from one of the residents complaining that there is an explosion in the area, something like a dynamite blast.
“I had to rush to the scene, and I reported to NADMO and all the stakeholders involved. We went to the scene but unfortunately, we couldn’t even locate where the blast came from but they [residents] just heard a blast from the ground,” Nana Kofi Boandwoah said.
Eyewitnesses who assisted in bringing the injured woman to the Anyaa Polyclinic said there have never an occurrence such as this in the area.
As a result, residents have blocked off the area where the explosion occurred, preventing anyone from approaching the scene.
Meanwhile, “the Police, the NIB, and other security organizations are conducting investigations into the incident,” according to the Assemblyman.
According to reports, the injured are responding to treatment.
“I would like to appeal to the necessary quarters and the stakeholders involved to come to our aid and solve this issue once and for all because we don’t know when it’s going to happen again,” he added.
