The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ghana, H.E. Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen parliamentary cooperation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ordash extended an invitation to the Speaker and Members of Parliament to attend the upcoming 3rd Russian‑African Summit, emphasizing its vast opportunities for Africa in bilateral trade, development cooperation, and the sharing of new technologies. He noted that Ghana’s parliamentary participation would add a valuable dimension to the summit’s deliberations.
Discussions also touched on key areas of cooperation, including the landmark inter‑governmental agreement signed in 2026 between Ghana and Russia for military‑technical collaboration. The Ambassador underscored that the agreement requires parliamentary ratification to take effect, highlighting the critical role of Parliament in actualizing bilateral commitments.
The two sides further discussed the Russian‑Parliament Friendship Association, expressing optimism that the composition of Ghana’s new Parliament would strengthen the association and deepen inter‑parliamentary ties.
In his remarks, Speaker Bagbin recalled his previous visits to Russia and productive engagements with his counterpart parliament. He highlighted his role as part of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) Geo‑Political Team mediating the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to global peace and diplomacy.
The Speaker reaffirmed the need to strengthen ties between Parliament and the Russian Embassy, stressing the shared commitment to mutual prosperity and continued collaboration between the two nations.
