GoldBod CEO Highlights ASM Gold’s Impact on Ghana’s Economy

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq, has underscored the transformative role of artisanal and small‑scale mining (ASM) in stabilizing Ghana’s economy and strengthening the local currency.

Speaking on the Board’s performance, Mr. Gyamfi revealed that ASM gold alone generated over US$10.8 billion in foreign exchange earnings, enabling the Bank of Ghana to intermediate about US$10.6 billion into the market.

“That helped the Bank of Ghana intermediate about $10.6 billion for the market, the cedi appreciated by over 41%, and reserves rose from $8.9 billion to $13.8 billion by December 2025,” he stated.

According to him, the surge in ASM gold exports not only boosted Ghana’s foreign reserves but also contributed to a remarkable appreciation of the cedi, reinforcing the sector’s importance in national economic planning.

GoldBod’s structured aggregation and export framework continues to position ASM as a cornerstone of Ghana’s mineral economy, with officials emphasizing its potential to drive inclusive growth and fiscal resilience.
