The High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Ghana, H.E. Naheeb Durrani, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to deepen the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors, including culture, food security, and health. The High Commissioner extended a formal invitation to the Speaker, Members of Parliament, and the Pakistan Friendship Association to visit Pakistan, underscoring the mutual desire to foster closer people‑to‑people connections.
In his welcoming remarks, Speaker Bagbin traced the rich history of parliamentary relations between Ghana and Pakistan, recalling a period when Ghanaian officers were sent to the Pakistan Parliament to understudy legislative processes. He noted that this foundational relationship has since evolved into active cooperation in legislative drafting and parliamentary oversight. Both parties acknowledged the importance of these institutional links, which continue to serve as a bedrock for exchanging ideas and best practices in governance.
Looking ahead, Parliament expressed a strong commitment to working with Pakistan in transformative areas such as technology, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and healthcare delivery. The discussions also highlighted immense potential for cooperation in artificial intelligence, fintech, and the broader innovation ecosystem.
