President Mahama Cuts Sod for Afienya Industrial Park Project

President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park in the Greater Accra Region, in a major move aimed at accelerating Ghana’s industrialization agenda and transforming the country’s manufacturing landscape.

The industrial park is expected to serve as a strategic hub for manufacturing, agro-processing and export-oriented industries, while attracting both local and foreign investment.

The project forms part of government efforts to expand the country’s industrial base, enhance value addition to agricultural products and position Ghana as a competitive destination for industrial investment in West Africa.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, President Mahama described the project as a significant milestone in the government’s drive to create jobs and stimulate economic growth through industrial development.

When completed, the Afienya Industrial Park is expected to provide the infrastructure and business environment needed to support a wide range of industries, particularly manufacturing and agro-processing enterprises.

Government officials say the initiative will contribute to increased exports, help reduce imports through local production and strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.

The park is also expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly for young people, while supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises linked to industrial production value chains.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the project will stimulate economic activity in the Greater Accra Region and serve as a catalyst for broader industrial transformation across the country.

The commencement of construction marks a significant step toward Ghana’s ambition of building a resilient, industrial-led economy capable of driving sustainable growth and job creation.
