GES Approves National CPD Day for Private School Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has approved the observance of a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for private school teachers across the country on Friday, October 30, 2026.

A circular signed by the Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, on behalf of the Director-General, said the approval followed a request by the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) and the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS).

According to the GES, the CPD Day will be observed under the theme, “Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Teachers.” The training programme is intended to equip teachers with practical strategies to promote mental health and well-being, enhance resilience and foster a supportive school environment.

The Service indicated that the initiative seeks to strengthen teachers’ capacity to manage workplace stress and improve their overall professional effectiveness.

GES has directed Regional Directors to bring the information to the attention of all Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education within their respective jurisdictions and ensure the necessary arrangements are made for the successful implementation of the programme.

The circular further urged Metro, Municipal and District Directors to collaborate with relevant District Training Officers to coordinate, organise and monitor participation by private schools in their districts.

The approval follows representations from private school associations requesting that October 30 be dedicated to professional development activities for teachers nationwide.

GES expressed confidence that the programme would contribute significantly to improving teacher welfare and promoting a positive learning environment in schools across the country.

The National CPD Day is expected to provide private school teachers with an opportunity to enhance their professional competencies while addressing critical issues related to mental health and psychosocial well-being.
