The Ghana Police Service has announced that its flagship automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH‑GH, will be fully implemented nationwide beginning October 1, 2026.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is designed to curb indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improve compliance with traffic laws.
How TRAFFITECH‑GH Works
According to the Police Service, the system will deploy cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences in real time. Offences captured will be reviewed, and Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) will be issued directly to vehicle owners or drivers via SMS. Each notice will specify the offence committed and the prescribed fine.
Road Safety Goals
Officials say the programme is part of a broader effort to reduce road crashes and casualties. The Police Service is urging motorists, drivers, and vehicle owners to comply with traffic regulations and support the initiative.
“This programme is a critical step toward safer roads and stronger enforcement of traffic laws,” the statement emphasized.
