Police Probe Attack on Patrol Team in Ashanti Region

 The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a violent attack on a Jacobu District patrol team at Bepotenten Sukuum on January 23, 2026.

According to police reports, the incident occurred after officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy during routine duties. The officers instructed the teenager to inform the owner of the firearm to present proper documentation at the police station.

While returning from patrol, the team was confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals armed with cutlasses and firearms who blocked the road. The group assaulted the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.

In the ensuing confrontation, police shot the assailant who had taken the weapon, while another individual sustained injuries. The service rifle was subsequently retrieved by the patrol team.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the attack and reiterated its warning against assaults on law enforcement officers. A statement emphasized that perpetrators of such acts will be pursued and prosecuted to face the full rigours of the law.
