The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School after a viral video showed him assaulting a female student.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was picked up by a Nyinahin District Police Patrol Team on June 8, 2026, around 7:00 p.m. following reports of an attack on 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu.
According to preliminary investigations, Apaflo, who also serves as caretaker of the school’s hostel, confronted the victim and some male students over alleged misconduct. A misunderstanding during the confrontation escalated, leading to the assault.
The incident sparked outrage among students, some of whom reportedly pelted stones at the teacher and called in youth from the town to confront him. Police patrol officers intervened swiftly to restore calm and prevent further violence.
Authorities have since issued a medical report form to the victim for examination and treatment. The suspect remains in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
In a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Antwi, Staff Officer for the Head of the Public Affairs Unit in Ashanti, the Command urged the public to remain calm and to resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
