Parliament has adopted the report of the Finance Committee approving the engagement of Principal Consult Limited to develop, implement, and deploy a cross‑border E‑commerce Value Added Tax (VAT) monitoring and collection system for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Presenting the Committee’s report to the House, Chairman Hon. Isaac Adongo explained that the proposed system is expected to improve the monitoring of cross‑border transactions and ensure efficient VAT collection. He underscored the importance of strengthening revenue mobilisation and enhancing tax compliance in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, noted that the successful implementation of the system would depend on effective collaboration among several public and private institutions. He emphasised that the initiative represents a critical step in modernising Ghana’s tax administration and ensuring that the state derives fair revenue from digital commerce.
The adoption of the report signals Parliament’s commitment to leveraging technology to address challenges in tax collection, broaden the revenue base, and support fiscal sustainability.
