New Juaben North: Authorities to decide fate of students following recent floods

The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly will today, Monday, October 10, 2022, meet the various stakeholders in education in the area to determine the fate of school children following heavy rains in the community.

The area witnessed heavy floods last week, rendering hundreds of people homeless and schools submerged as well.

Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Comfort Asante, told Citi News that efforts are in place for the assembly to give final-year Junior High School students the needed attention as they prepare to write their BECE next Monday.

“NADMO needs to do the assessment, but we are looking at finding a way for the final-year students. We will study the situation, if it is still raining in New Juaben North, there will be an education committee to find solutions to it.”

Recent rains which lasted for over three days became worse after the Densu river which flows through the community went over its banks.

Thousands of properties were lost in the process. Residents say the situation may get worse if the rains do not stop.

Personnel from the Eastern Regional Headquarters of the National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service responding to distress calls from residents were left helpless when they arrived at the scene as they could not get access to the community due to the floods.

In an interview with Citi News, some home and business owners who had abandoned their homes and shops appealed to government to “assist them in these trying times.”
