MP Demands Immediate Disbursement of PWD Apprenticeship Funds in Suaman District

The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North and a member of Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has called on the Suaman District Assembly to immediately release funds allocated to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the apprenticeship programme to the intended beneficiaries.

She further urged the Assembly to provide evidence of the disbursement for verification purposes and ensure transparency in the management of the funds.

The call was made when the Suaman District Assembly appeared before the Committee to present its 2025 Annual Statement submitted by the Audit Committee during a public hearing.

Hon. Awuni stressed the importance of ensuring that resources earmarked for PWDs are delivered promptly to support their economic empowerment and social inclusion.

According to her, the effective disbursement of the funds is crucial to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities and advancing the government’s commitment to inclusive development.

She emphasized that assemblies must be accountable for funds allocated to vulnerable groups and ensure that beneficiaries receive the support intended for them.

The public hearing formed part of the Committee’s oversight responsibility to assess financial management and governance practices within local authorities.

The session brought together representatives of Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) from the Western and Western North regions to account for their financial activities and implementation of audit recommendations.

The Committee used the occasion to engage local authorities on issues relating to accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery, while encouraging strict adherence to financial management regulations and policies.

The hearing also provided a platform for assessing the utilisation of public funds and ensuring that programmes designed to support vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities, achieve their intended objectives.
