Education Ministry Invites GAUA, GTEC to Urgent Meeting Over Strike Action

The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting aimed at resolving the ongoing strike action affecting tertiary institutions across the country.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry on October 11, 2026, the meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, and is intended to facilitate constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the impasse.

The Ministry stated that government remains committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and continuous engagement with relevant stakeholders.

It emphasized the importance of approaching the discussions in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, particularly given the impact of the industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

The statement urged the leadership of GAUA to take advantage of the opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the issues that triggered the strike.

The Ministry expressed optimism that the meeting would yield positive outcomes and pave the way for the swift resumption of normal academic and administrative activities in the affected tertiary institutions.

Government, it noted, remains committed to sustaining industrial harmony within the education sector while ensuring that concerns raised by workers are addressed through dialogue and consensus-building.

The statement was signed by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Hashim Mohammed, who reiterated government’s determination to engage all parties in resolving the dispute and restoring stability within the tertiary education system.

The planned meeting comes amid efforts by authorities to minimize disruptions to academic work and administrative services while pursuing a negotiated settlement to the ongoing strike action.
