Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Ahafo Development, Announces Nationwide Infrastructure Drive

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equitable development across Ghana, assuring residents of the Ahafo Region that key investments in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and economic revitalization will continue.

The President gave the assurance during a Citizens’ Engagement in Goaso on Saturday, marking the climax of his two-day Resetting Ghana tour of the Ahafo Region.

Addressing residents, traditional authorities and stakeholders, President Mahama expressed appreciation to the people of the region for their support during the 2024 General Election and reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure that no part of the country is left behind in the national development agenda.

He said the government was implementing a range of policy interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating economic recovery, with particular attention to road infrastructure, agricultural productivity and access to quality healthcare services.

President Mahama noted that road rehabilitation and construction remain a major priority and announced plans to extend ongoing infrastructure works to all 16 regional capitals across the country ahead of Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

According to him, the nationwide programme is intended to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade and improve transportation networks to support economic growth and regional integration.

The President also outlined measures being pursued to strengthen the healthcare sector, including efforts to expand access to primary healthcare services and specialised medical treatment for citizens.

He emphasised that improving healthcare delivery remains central to the government’s development agenda, adding that investments in health infrastructure and services would help improve outcomes and reduce inequalities in access to care.

On agriculture, President Mahama said the government would continue to support farmers through targeted interventions designed to increase productivity, enhance food security and drive economic transformation.

He further stressed that the administration’s broader economic recovery programme is focused on restoring stability, creating employment opportunities and improving living standards for Ghanaians.

The Citizens’ Engagement formed part of the President’s regional outreach programme, which seeks to provide updates on government policies and projects while gathering feedback from citizens and local stakeholders on development priorities.

Traditional leaders and residents who attended the event welcomed the government’s engagement efforts and expressed optimism about the planned interventions for the region and the country as a whole.
