The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mubarak Muntaka Mohammed, has briefed Parliament on the recent floods that devastated parts of the country, revealing that Government has allocated GH¢350 million to support victims and strengthen long-term flood mitigation measures.
Addressing the House, the Minister explained that the funds will be disbursed to provide immediate relief to affected communities while also financing interventions aimed at curbing the recurring menace. He emphasized that the allocation reflects Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the wake of the disaster.
The Interior Minister noted that the package will cover emergency supplies, rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure, and investment in preventive strategies such as improved drainage systems, stricter enforcement of building regulations, and enhanced disaster preparedness.
Members of Parliament welcomed the announcement, with several lawmakers stressing the need for sustained national effort to address the perennial flooding challenge.
The Minister extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and assured citizens that Government will continue to work closely with relevant agencies to ensure effective implementation of the relief and mitigation programme.
