Swift intervention by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from the New Abirem Municipal Fire Station prevented a potential disaster after a fire outbreak at a mini supermarket near the clinic at Amenam.
A five-member crew led by ADO II Annor Fobih Romeo responded to a distress call in the early hours of Saturday and found the supermarket engulfed in flames. Firefighters mounted a coordinated operation to contain the blaze, successfully stopping it from spreading to adjoining properties before extinguishing it completely.
Although no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the supermarket was destroyed. Items lost included deep freezers, gas cylinders, provisions, vegetables, cooking utensils, and 75 tubers of yam, with estimated losses valued at about GH¢80,000.
The GNFS has launched investigations into the cause of the fire. Officials commended the swift response of the crew, noting that their timely action saved nearby properties and prevented further losses.
