Ghana EXIM Bank Donates GH¢200,000 Medical Equipment to Korle Bu Child Health Department

The Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) has donated medical equipment and essential supplies valued at GH¢200,000 to the Child Health Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to support the delivery of quality healthcare services to children.

The donation followed a needs assessment visit by the bank to identify operational challenges facing paediatric patients and healthcare providers at the hospital.

The presentation, which was largely targeted at strengthening services at the department’s Paediatric Oncology Unit, formed part of activities marking GEXIM’s 10th anniversary celebrations and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Items donated included patient monitors, blood pressure monitors, a vital signs monitor, defibrillators, oxygen cylinders, emergency stretchers, examination tables, IV pole stands, five-fold ward screens, large kidney dishes and disposable bed mats.

Speaking during the presentation, the Head of Sustainability at Ghana EXIM Bank, Dr. Abena N. Asomaning, said the intervention reflected the bank’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and supporting the well-being of children.

She noted that the donation was intended to help address some of the critical healthcare needs identified during the assessment visit and contribute to better treatment outcomes for young patients.

Before presenting the items, the GEXIM delegation toured the hospital’s Emergency Unit, Babies Unit and Paediatric Oncology Unit to gain first-hand insight into operational challenges and assess urgent infrastructure needs.

During the visit, the delegation also responded to an immediate medical emergency by providing GH¢2,000 to cover the cost of blood required for a child receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Child Health Department, Principal Nursing Officer Lawrencia Turkson expressed appreciation to GEXIM for the support, describing the gesture as timely and beneficial to patient care.

She said the equipment would enhance the department’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services, particularly for children requiring specialised treatment.

Ms. Turkson further used the occasion to introduce the delegation to the department’s “100×100: It Starts With You” fundraising campaign.

The initiative seeks to raise GH¢10 million by encouraging at least 100,000 individuals to contribute GH¢100 each towards infrastructure improvements, ward renovations and financial assistance for needy patients.

The campaign is expected to support the Child Health Department’s efforts to improve facilities and ensure sustainable healthcare delivery for children receiving treatment at the hospital.
