Education Minister Orders Suspension of Obuasi SHS Headmaster Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

The Minister for Education has directed the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Education on October 13, 2026, following investigations into the allegations by journalists Joyce Bawah Mogtari (JoyNews) and Manasseh Azure Awuni.

According to the statement, the Minister considers the matter serious and has instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend the headmaster pending a full investigation into the allegations.

The Ministry further disclosed that the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters had been requested to commence investigations into the matter.

The statement emphasized that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service would not tolerate or condone any form of alleged misconduct in educational institutions across the country.

“The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reiterate that we would not tolerate or countenance such alleged despicable misconduct in any educational institution across the country,” the statement said.

It further stressed the trust that parents and guardians place in teachers and school authorities to protect and safeguard students.

“Parents and guardians have entrusted their wards in the care of teachers whose responsibilities are to protect and safeguard the children and not abuse them,” the statement added.

The Ministry indicated that further action would be determined by the outcome of the investigations being conducted by both the Ghana Education Service and the Police CID.
