Finance Minister Highlights Timely Statutory Fund Releases, Fiscal Discipline

Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has underscored the government’s commitment to prudent fiscal management, stating that public resources are being directed towards priority areas while ensuring that statutory funds receive timely releases.

According to the Finance Minister, the government’s spending approach is focused on addressing critical national needs without waste, marking what he described as a significant shift from the accumulation of arrears that has characterized public finance management in the past.

“We are spending in the right places, on the right things, without wasting public resources,” Dr. Forson stated.

He explained that the prompt release of funds to statutory institutions reflects the government’s determination to meet its legal obligations and maintain fiscal discipline.

Dr. Forson noted that timely disbursements to statutory funds demonstrate respect for the laws that establish such funds and help prevent the build-up of outstanding payment obligations.

The Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen public financial management, improve budget execution and enhance accountability in the use of state resources.

He stressed that ensuring regular transfers to statutory funds is essential for supporting the operations of beneficiary agencies and sustaining the delivery of critical public services.

The Finance Ministry maintains that adherence to statutory payment schedules forms part of a broader strategy to restore confidence in public finances, promote transparency and improve the overall efficiency of government expenditure.

Dr. Forson’s comments signal the government’s resolve to prioritize responsible spending while fulfilling its financial commitments in a timely manner.
