Dr. Amoah demands investigation into National Cathedral Funds

Former  Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Stephen Amoah has expressed concerns about the financial implications of the National Cathedral project, despite having no objections to its construction.

Speaking on Joy News AM, Dr. Amoah acknowledged sharing concerns with others about the source of funding and overall cost of the project.

As a Christian, Dr. Amoah clarified that his concerns aren’t about the cathedral itself, but rather the financial aspects.

“Honestly, I am not against the cathedral because I am a Christian, but I am with those who are raising concerns about how much has gone into our foundation,” he said.

He called for an investigation into the project’s finances, stating, “I think that money should be investigated, and those raising concerns are right, even though I am an NPP member.”

Dr. Amoah also questioned the location of the cathedral, suggesting that it might not be the most suitable spot, given its proximity to the International Conference Centre and Parliament.

“I personally think even the location is a problem. With the International Conference Centre and Parliament nearby, they should have considered a different location,” he added

The National Cathedral project, initiated in 2017, aims to create a world-class place of worship and symbol of Ghana’s Christian heritage.

However, it has been marred by controversy over its high cost, funding sources, and allegations of embezzlement.

Critics argue that the allocated funds could be better utilized for pressing social and economic issues like healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
