Catholic Church Honours Speaker Bagbin for Legacy of Service

 The Catholic Church has honoured the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for his enduring legacy as a leader rooted in wisdom, humility, and service.

The recognition was conferred during a Eucharistic Celebration held on 30th January 2026 at the Chapel of the Bishop of Wa Diocese. In his sermon, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., praised the Speaker’s statesmanship and unwavering commitment to the underprivileged, describing him as a virtuous Catholic and a selfless servant leader.

A citation presented to Rt. Hon. Bagbin lauded him as “a paragon of humility, service, love and integrity,” and commended his honesty as “a light leading the world out of darkness.”

In response, the Speaker expressed gratitude to the Church and called for continued spiritual guidance for the country’s leadership. He highlighted the Church’s pivotal role in developing underprivileged regions, especially the Upper West, and applauded its contributions to education and healthcare.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin pledged Parliament’s support for religious initiatives and urged the Church to continue caring for both the spiritual and material needs of the vulnerable. The ceremony concluded with prayers led by the Bishop and a congregation of priests, seeking divine blessings and good health for the Speaker.
