Ghana’s U‑17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, has departed Accra for Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, to compete in the 2026 WAFU B U‑17 Girls’ Cup, which kicks off on Tuesday, September 16.
A squad of 22 players, led by head coach Nana Joe Adarkwa, will represent Ghana in the tournament that doubles as qualifiers for the 2027 U‑17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Maidens enter the competition as defending champions, aiming to retain their crown.
The team is scheduled to play its opening match on Tuesday, with fixtures lined up against Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Togo, Niger, and Côte d’Ivoire in a round‑robin format.
Officials expressed confidence in the Maidens’ ability to uphold Ghana’s strong tradition in youth women’s football and inspire the next generation of players.
