Member of Parliament for Atiwa East and Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei-Asare, has been retained as Deputy Chairperson of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC).
Her re-election was confirmed at the close of the AFROPAC General Conference and Meeting held in Accra, where delegates from public accounts committees across Africa endorsed her continued leadership in the continental body.
The renewed mandate is widely viewed as a recognition of her contribution to strengthening parliamentary oversight, promoting fiscal transparency and advancing accountability in public financial management across the continent.
As Deputy Chairperson, Mrs Osei-Asare is expected to continue supporting AFROPAC’s efforts to enhance the effectiveness of public accounts committees and build the capacity of African legislatures to scrutinise government expenditure and ensure prudent management of public resources.
Her retention also reinforces Ghana’s growing influence within continental accountability and governance institutions, while positioning the country’s Parliament at the centre of initiatives aimed at improving financial oversight mechanisms across Africa.
AFROPAC serves as a platform that brings together public accounts committees from African parliaments to share best practices, strengthen oversight functions and promote transparency and accountability in the management of public finances.
The outcome of the conference ensures that Ghana will continue to play a key role in shaping AFROPAC’s agenda and supporting efforts to improve parliamentary financial scrutiny and good governance throughout the continent.
