The triumphant squad from the University for Development Studies (UDS) touched down in Ghana on Sunday, October 5, after securing a landmark victory at the 2025 FISU World University Games.
At Kotoka International Airport, the team received a rousing welcome from jubilant supporters, students, relatives, and government representatives who gathered to celebrate their remarkable achievement.
Plans are currently in motion for an official ceremony to recognize both the players and the technical staff for their exceptional showing on the international stage.
As part of the celebrations, the team will formally present the coveted trophy to the President of the Republic of Ghana on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Jubilee House.
UDS etched its name in history by overcoming reigning champions Paulista University of Brazil with a 2-1 victory in extra time, clinching the prestigious 2025 FISU World University Football Cup.
This groundbreaking win marks the very first time an African university has captured the title, a feat that has been widely applauded across the continent.
The triumph has sparked nationwide jubilation and is being hailed as a powerful source of motivation for youth involvement in sports.
Many observers regard UDS’s accomplishment as evidence of Ghana’s growing ability to cultivate world-class talent by blending academic excellence with athletic distinction.
