Bank of Ghana to Host Queen Máxima for Financial Health Discussions

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) will host Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), on November 4 and 5, 2026, as part of her official visit to Ghana.

A statement issued by the central bank said Queen Máxima will hold a bilateral meeting with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, to review Ghana’s progress in financial inclusion and digital finance as well as policy and regulatory measures aimed at strengthening the financial health of households, workers and small businesses.

The visit underscores Ghana’s efforts to deepen financial inclusion and improve the financial well-being of citizens, building on gains made in the country’s digital finance ecosystem.

As part of the visit, the Bank of Ghana and Queen Máxima will co-host a Roundtable on Financial Health, bringing together senior leaders from banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, insurance companies, pension institutions, regulators and development partners.

The discussions are expected to focus on strategies for improving financial health, including innovations in savings, responsible lending, insurance, pensions and investments. The roundtable will also examine the role of employers in promoting financial well-being and explore opportunities for collective action across the financial sector.

According to the Bank of Ghana, the visit follows earlier discussions between Queen Máxima, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Governor Dr. Asiama during the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, where financial health emerged as a key priority for advancing economic resilience and inclusive growth.

The central bank noted that Ghana has become one of Africa’s leading financial inclusion success stories. Citing the World Bank’s Global Findex Database 2025, it said 81 per cent of adults in the country now hold a financial account, supported by a robust digital payments infrastructure and a vibrant fintech sector.

The Bank of Ghana said strengthening financial health represents the next phase of the country’s financial inclusion journey and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive and resilient financial system that supports economic growth and the well-being of all Ghanaians.
