Attorney-General Opposes Stay Application in Buffer Stock Case

The Attorney-General is expected to oppose an application by former Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, seeking a stay of proceedings in his ongoing criminal trial at the High Court.

The application is scheduled to be heard at the Court of Appeal on Monday as part of the government’s ongoing anti-corruption drive under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.

According to the court schedule released for the week of October 19 to 23, the case, titled Republic v Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba & Another, will be heard at 9:00 a.m. at the Court of Appeal, where the prosecution is expected to resist the request for a repeat application for stay of proceedings.

In a related development, the Attorney-General’s team will appear before the Criminal Court in the ongoing Skytrain Case, Republic v Asamoah & Another, to move for a Case Management Conference for the defence of the accused persons.

The conference is expected to pave the way for the continuation of proceedings and the orderly management of the trial.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have indicated that the first prosecution witness in the Buffer Stock trial is expected to begin giving evidence on Tuesday, October 20, subject to the outcome of the appeal proceedings.

The witness is scheduled to take the stand at the Specialized Court to deliver evidence-in-chief in the case involving the former Buffer Stock CEO and another accused person.

The developments mark another significant stage in the prosecution of high-profile cases being pursued under the government’s anti-corruption and accountability agenda.

Legal observers are expected to closely follow the Court of Appeal’s ruling, as it could determine whether the substantive trial proceeds as scheduled at the High Court.
