GES Releases First-Term Capitation Grant to Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the first-term capitation grant for the 2026/2027 academic year to support the smooth operation of basic schools across the country.

In a letter dated October 16, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, GES announced that the funds had been transferred to the accounts of the various District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to schools.

According to the Service, the transfer to district accounts includes allocations for Sports and Culture activities at the district level, while the regional Sports and Culture component has been transferred separately to designated accounts of the regional offices.

GES directed Regional Directors to ensure that the funds are transferred to beneficiary schools on or before October 30, 2026, to enable heads of basic schools to carry out their activities without disruption.

The Service further disclosed that a monitoring team from its headquarters would visit the regions during the first week of November to assess compliance with the directive and verify that the funds have reached the schools.

The letter stressed the need for prompt disbursement to facilitate the effective management of schools during the first term of the academic year.

The communication was signed by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

The capitation grant remains a key source of funding for public basic schools, supporting the implementation of administrative and educational activities aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes.
