AFCON 2027Q: Semenyo To Miss Ghana’s Doubleheader Against Somalia With Knee Injury

Ghana have suffered a huge blow, with forward Antoine Semenyo set to miss their doubleheader against Somalia following a knee injury.

Semenyo sustained a left knee collateral ligament injury while playing for Manchester City against Ipswich in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca confirmed that the 26-year-old could be sidelined for up to two months.

“The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine [Semenyo],” he said at a pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League tie against AEK Athens F.C.

“In the first moment we expected a worse injury. After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not so big like we expected. It will be eight weeks.

“Now the most important thing is recovery. When he is back in December it will be like a new player. Collateral. It’s not muscle.”

The winger also missed Ghana’s September–October AFCON qualifiers with an ankle injury.

Ghana will face Somalia on November 11 before the return leg four days later.

Semenyo has contributed to five goals in six starts for Manchester City this season.
