GES Interdicts Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.

In a statement issued on October 14, 2026, GES announced that the interdiction would remain in force pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into the allegations.

According to the statement, Mr. Abdulai, who heads Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has been directed to proceed on interdiction with immediate effect and make himself available to assist investigators.

GES indicated that the alleged incident triggered a student rampage at the school, resulting in the destruction of school property and other items, leading to the temporary closure of the institution.

As part of the measures taken, the headmaster has been instructed to hand over the management of the school to the Regional Director of Education.

The Service further disclosed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the Police to facilitate investigations into the matter.

GES reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students and staff while upholding the highest standards of professional conduct within educational institutions.

The interdiction follows an earlier directive by the Minister for Education for the immediate suspension and investigation of the headmaster over the allegations.

The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations of the Ghana Education Service.
